Jennifer Kernica and mixed media visual artist Andy Bellomo www.andybartworks.com collaborated on a mural project on Touhy & Clark Street in Rogers Park, Chicago.
THEME:
The Mayfly has a short lifespan and is called one-day or one-day fly in
some languages. Typically, the generations of mayflies in a population
mature all at once. Seasonally, it is common to see them everywhere;
tango-ing around each other in swarms...covering every available
surface...and then eventually dying together. It is common to see a
layer of them—a full generation—floating in lakes and rivers. They feed
fish and another life cycle that we are all part of begins again. This
mural is a whimsically bittersweet tribute to living life to the fullest
 everyday with multicultural unicorn-fish sharing the message.
Below is an image of the revised proposal for our concept to fit the wall (see original here). The wing of
the mayfly (black and white area) is treated with a mixture of stained
glass by Andy Bellomo.
