I usually notice groups of women that dress similar after spending so much time around each other--not often males unless they are on a team together.<br /><br />I would venture to say that is an additional reason that I chose to use Matryoshka dolls. Portraying the guys as the dolls made them a bit more effeminate than if I used another object/set of something.<br /><br />Traditionally the outer layer is a woman; inside are other figures that can be both genders, usually ending in a baby. Or was it some sort of art project. Wow. what a sight that must have been. I love your interpretation of it. It&#39;s interesting how you interpret Matryoshka dolls as a tribe. I tend to think of Matryoshka dolls as a family. Momma, pappa, kids. Of course there are all sorts of variations on Matryoshka dolls nowadays, so it&#39;s not just family... just like how they can be political figures or a tribe or any group. <br /><br />It makes me curious about the history of Matryoshka dolls. My mom has a collection of about 15 sets. And I have a blank wooden set (from urban outfitters or some place) that i&#39;ve been meaning to customize. Might be neat to do something with the history of this form. <br /><br />Excuse my brainstorming out loud here on your blog, but your illustration has inspired me.
